A Shared Vision

When you realize you’re living in a story that’s bigger than your own dreams, it’s hard to pinpoint where a vision began to take on a life of its own. Was Tending Place started the day Sarah opened the doors to her LoveWell counseling service? Or was it started the day Summer launched her beloved community, The Presence Project? Or maybe, it started the day Kris opened the doors for the first Refine {the retreat}. We can’t say for sure, but what we do know is that God has been sowing seeds in our hearts for a long time—seeds of creativity, community and care—in all kinds of unique and generative ways. As we shared our dreams for our communities, and the people we serve, the seeds for Tending Place began to sprout. We quickly realized that we were all holding pieces of a beautiful shared dream— and together we imagined a unique space where hearts and souls would be tended.

That day at the coffee shop, with the confession of our dreams hanging in the air, and our hands wrapped around warm cups, we knew that something was happening. In that moment, our shared dream sprouted tiny roots and continues to unfurl into what we have affectionately named, “Tending Place”—for all of the ways God tends our hearts, as we tend to one another.

Our unique passions and complimentary vocations as Spiritual Director, Counselor, Creative Coach, and event hosts, all come together in this generative vision. All our hearts are longing to gather together, nurture belonging, and creatively explore the way God is moving as we share our stories and our lives in community.

Tender & Resilient

At Tending Place, we see in the fiddlehead fern a quiet parable of spiritual formation. Like the fern, we are invited to unfurl—slowly, gently—into the fullness of who we are in Christ. “Abide in me, and I in you,” Jesus says (John 15:4), and like the rooted fern, abiding anchors us in His love. Though its leaves appear delicate, the fern is resilient—its deep roots hold the forest floor, its foliage shelters tender life beneath. In the same way, a soul formed in Christ offers refuge, steadiness, and grace to others.

“Spiritual formation prepares us for a life in which we move away from our fears, compulsions, resentments, and sorrows, to serve with joy and courage in the world, even when this leads us to places we would rather not go. Spiritual formation helps us to see the face of God in the midst of a hardened world and in our own heart.”
